14. Model/Success Story :
a) In pursuance of one of the thrust areas “Environment Enrichment” each Units carry on Plantation programme according to their convenience. Most of the Units maintain their own plantations. Besides this, State Level Green Mizoram Committee headed by Chief Minister allotted High Way Plantation of 2.5 kms. between Tlawng River and Sairang Road junction at Lengpui Airport Road and AR Ground (Lammual) area. This is a joint venture of Aizawl City NSS Units. The plantation has almost attained to maturity; some trees are now giving shed to travelers. In this plantation area, plantation programme vergence had been made with the Environment & Forest Department. They provided sufficient sapling on free of cost. To upbring the young tree, clearing had been done twice in a year; especially in the rainy season. To protect from wild fire, clearing also carried out in the month of January and February every year. In this regard appreciation certificate were also awarded to NSS.
b) Another trustworthy to mention is assets creation. Most of the Units can show, what their Unit made durable assets for the community. Construction of assets is done according to the need of locality. It may be varied from village to village. While some village might need water points, other were eager for urinal; while one might need pavilion in the public playground, other would like to waiting shed, while some locality asked for market shed. These kinds of construction varying from village to village were done by Mizoram NSS which were good and durable assets for the community. “Development of volunteers personality through community service” is practically earned through this service. Fund for these construction were normally borne by the State Government. Some Units also received a helping hand from Government Departments.
